Human Dreams May Be Recorded

September 30, 2012 on 6:28 pm | In Dream Research | No Comments
Scientists think it will be possible to record people’s dreams and then interpret them, according to a new report. They claim to have developed a system which allows them to record higher-level brain activity.
Dr Moran Cerf told the journal Nature: ‘We would like to read people’s dreams.’ Previously the only way to access people’s dreams is for psychologists to ask about them after the event and try to interpret them.

Dr Cerf hopes to eventually compare people’s memories of their dreams with an electronic visualisation of their brain activity. He told the BBC: ‘There’s no clear answer as to why humans dream. And one of the questions we would like to answer is when do we actually create this dream?’

The scientist believes his latest research shows that certain neurons or individual brain cells are linked with specific objects or concepts. He found that a particular neuron lit up when a volunteer thought about Marilyn Monroe.

If a database was built up identifying various neurons with concepts, objects and people it would allow them to “read the subject’s minds”, according to Dr Cerf. However, Dr Roderick Oner, a clinical psychologist and dream expert, said that this kind of visualisation would be of limited help when it came to interpreting the ‘complex dream narrative’.

In addition to get a detailed picture of individual neurons subjects had to have electrodesimplanted deep in the brain using surgery. The Nature researchers used data from patients who had electrodes implanted to monitor and treat them for brain seizures.

However, Dr Cerf said he hoped that it would be possible at a later stage to monitor people without invasive surgery. He said it would be ‘wonderful’ to be able to read the minds of coma patients who are unable to communicate. (This information from the network)

Everyone wishes to have a dream box, in which there is a magical world. In the world, they can use their imagination to fancy whatever they can think of, and experience a fantastic journey, just like Alice in the popular movie Alice in wonderland. I think most of the people who have watched the movie dream of being Alice to live with those lovely creatures and to have such an experience.

Rose also envies the life of Alice and wishes to have a dream in which she is no longer a human being, but something else. For she always wants to know what it is like to be something that she is familiar with.

One night, an angel comes to Rose’s bedside and she tells Rose that she will dream a dream tonight. In the dream, she will become a handbag and have a wonderful tour. Also, she will learn about what is the proper behavior for a handbag when attending different occasions. Rose is so exciting and curious that she falls asleep quickly.

Rose arrives at a large house and she sees a lot of handbags just like herself. Rose remembers that there are also a lot of handbags in her mom’s wardrobe, but these are more beautiful. Each one of them has their own characteristics. Rose is so amazed and impressed, feeling good being one of them. The members in the house are intimate with each other and they always keep a sweet and gorgeous smile on their face, smiles that are lightening the house. Rose feels as if she is in a heaven. Why Do We Dream

September 27, 2012 on 9:57 am | In Health and Dreams | No Comments

Dreams are successions of image, ideas, emotional and sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. Dream is a sleeping person’s mind. Let us find out what research shows about the reasons that we dream, and read about theories of dream interpretation.

The human brain is a mysterious little ball of gray matter. Scientists have been performing sleep and dream studies for decades now, and we still aren’t 100 percent sure about the function of sleep. It’s also pretty commonly accepted among the scientific community that we all dream, though the frequency in which dreams are remembered varies from person to person.

Another theory is that dreams typically reflect our emotions. During the day, our brains are working hard to make connections to achieve certain functions. When posed with a tough math problem, your brain is incredibly focused on that one thing.

While scientists still do not know much about why or how we dream, some have suggested that we typically spend more than two hours dreaming each night. Many people experience their most vivid dreams during REM sleep, less vivid dreams occur at other times of the night.

In fact, everyone could dream every day. In the night, we may think some things, then, going to bed, we often dream it. It means that we think it, it will come true in the night. So, when we go to bed, we do not thing some things. It can influence our good sleep. While this theory suggests that dreams are the result of internally generated signals, Hobson does not believe that dreams are meaningless.

Another theory uses a computer metaphor to account for dreams. According to this theory, dreams serve to ‘clean up’ clutter from the mind, much like clean-up operations in a computer, refreshing the mind to prepare for the next day. One theory suggests that dreams are the result of our brains trying to interpret external stimuli during sleep.

Until someone proves or disproves one of these theories, or poses an alternate one, we are left at square one. Our knowledge as to what causes us to dream is limited to the fact that we do dream, and that dreams occur during the REM phase of sleep.

Snakes in my Dreams autobiography

Snakes in my Dreams

As startling in content as it is courageous in self-disclosure. No memoir so intricately portrays how blocked memories return to conscious thought like Snakes in My Dreams.

A thought-provoking, six-decade journey from the author’s earliest recollections to his current career as a specialist in the treatment of PTSD. A ‘must read’ for LGBT memoir enthusiasts, individuals in recovery from abuse or substances, their families and friends – and a breakthrough study for mental health researchers and practitioners.
