Dreams: (From Volumes 4, 8, 12, and 16 of the Collected Works of C. G. Jung) (Jung Extracts)

June 18, 2015 on 5:32 pm | In Dream Types | 3 Comments

Dream analysis is a distinctive and foundational part of analytical psychology, the school of psychology founded by C. G. Jung and his successors. This volume collects Jung’s most insightful contributions to the study of dreams and their meaning. The essays in this volume, written by Jung between 1909 and 1945, reveal Jung’s most essential views about dreaming–especially regarding the relationship between language and dream. Through these studies, Jung grew to understand that dreams are themselves a language, a language through which the soul communicates with the body. The essays included are “The Analysis of Dreams,” “On the Significance of Number Dreams,” “General Aspects of Dream Psychology,” “On the Nature of Dreams,” “The Practical Use of Dream Analysis,” and “Individual Dream Symbolism in Relation to Alchemy” (complete with illustrations).

New to this edition is a foreword by Sonu Shamdasani, Philemon Professor of Jung History at University College London.

Understand Your Dreams Now: Spiritual Dream Interpretation

June 15, 2015 on 5:34 am | In Dream Types | 2 Comments

“I took the essence of my years of dream interpretation training and what I look for as a dream expert. I also found a way to teach people that would allow them to catch on quickly through an accelerated dream learning process.” Doug Addison

Spiritual dream interpretation could possibly help you meet your future spouse, make the right business decisions at work, learn the calling of your children, see what may take place ahead of time, or even be at the right place at the right time! Understand Your Dreams Now is a crash course in dream interpretation drawn from decades of classroom and real world experience.

It contains everything you need to get started, including a dream dictionary.

In this concise book you will learn to:

• Get your dream’s meaning quickly with pinpoint accuracy.

• Develop your ability to hear God through your dreams and daily life.

• Recognize which dreams are important and in need of interpretation.

• Discover destiny dreams and life-calling dreams.

• Effectively deal with nightmares to get a positive outcome.

• Track and journal your dreams for future application.

• Discern the symbolic meaning behind zombies, vampires, and other dark images.

• Understanding children’s dreams and nightmares

• Find out the meaning of flying dreams, being chased, teeth coming loose, and more.

Although not all dreams are from God, quite often God guides us through dreams. For most of us, the most important thing to discover is the purpose of a dream, not just its meaning. Only then will we know how we should respond to it. This book will help you do just that.

Endorsements:

With many years of experience, the wisdom of an ancient sage is mixed with relevancy of a contemporary prophetic spokesman in the writings of Doug Addison. This man’s understanding ranks among the top in this generation for “interpretive skills.” Deep, yet user friendly!

The Undiscovered Self: With Symbols and the Interpretation of Dreams (Jung Extracts)

June 15, 2015 on 5:32 am | In Dream Types | 3 Comments

These two essays, written late in Jung’s life, reflect his responses to the shattering experience of World War II and the dawn of mass society. Among his most influential works, “The Undiscovered Self” is a plea for his generation–and those to come–to continue the individual work of self-discovery and not abandon needed psychological reflection for the easy ephemera of mass culture. Only individual awareness of both the conscious and unconscious aspects of the human psyche, Jung tells us, will allow the great work of human culture to continue and thrive.

Jung’s reflections on self-knowledge and the exploration of the unconscious carry over into the second essay, “Symbols and the Interpretation of Dreams,” completed shortly before his death in 1961. Describing dreams as communications from the unconscious, Jung explains how the symbols that occur in dreams compensate for repressed emotions and intuitions. This essay brings together Jung’s fully evolved thoughts on the analysis of dreams and the healing of the rift between consciousness and the unconscious, ideas that are central to his system of psychology.

This paperback edition of Jung’s classic work includes a new foreword by Sonu Shamdasani, Philemon Professor of Jung History at University College London.

Waking, Dreaming, Being: Self and Consciousness in Neuroscience, Meditation, and Philosophy

June 11, 2015 on 4:40 pm | In Dream Types | 3 Comments

A renowned philosopher of the mind, also known for his groundbreaking work on Buddhism and cognitive science, Evan Thompson combines the latest neuroscience research on sleep, dreaming, and meditation with Indian and Western philosophy of the mind, casting new light on the self and its relation to the brain.

Thompson shows how the self is a changing process, not a static thing. When we are awake we identify with our body, but if we let our mind wander or daydream, we project a mentally imagined self into the remembered past or anticipated future. As we fall asleep, the impression of being a bounded self distinct from the world dissolves, but the self reappears in the dream state. If we have a lucid dream, we no longer identify only with the self within the dream. Our sense of self now includes our dreaming self, the “I” as dreamer. Finally, as we meditate–either in the waking state or in a lucid dream–we can observe whatever images or thoughts arise and how we tend to identify with them as “me.” We can also experience sheer awareness itself, distinct from the changing contents that make up our image of the self.

Contemplative traditions say that we can learn to let go of the self, so that when we die we can witness its dissolution with equanimity. Thompson weaves together neuroscience, philosophy, and personal narrative to depict these transformations, adding uncommon depth to life’s profound questions. Contemplative experience comes to illuminate scientific findings, and scientific evidence enriches the vast knowledge acquired by contemplatives.
