The interpretation of dreams by dream experts is probably as old as dreaming itself. We know that all humans, and many animals, dream every night, and humans have always been fascinated to learn what causes dreams and what they mean.

The interpretation of dreams dates back at least as far as 3000-4000 B.C. We know that because the interpretations of dreams were recorded in permanent form on clay tablets. It’s thought that many primitive peoples were unable to initially distinguish between the real world and the dream world. For more details visit to www.joint-venture-guide.com
In many cases, they looked upon the dream world as an extension of the physical world around them, and in many cases they saw the dream world as more powerful than the waking one.

Dream interpretation was such an important field to the ancient Greek and Roman world that dream interpreters often accompanied generals and other military leaders into battles. Dreams were taken extremely seriously, and the Greeks and Romans in particular often viewed dreams as messages sent by their gods.

Dreams also had a religious content in ancient Egypt, and priest their doubled as dream interpreters. Dreams were among the items recorded by the ancient Egyptians in the form of hieroglyphics. Those whose dreams were especially vivid or significant were thought to be blessed and were given special status in these ancient societies. Likewise, people who were able to interpret dreams were thought to receive these gifts directly from the gods, and they enjoyed a special status in society as well.
There are over 700 mentions of dreams in the bible, and people in biblical times saw dreams as very significant. Dreams and their interpretations are mentioned in many of the most significant books of the bible and other holy scriptures.

In many cases, dreams were often seen as a form of prophecy. People often interpreted their dreams as omens or warnings, and adjusted their activities accordingly. Dreams were often thought of as omens from deities, as messages from spirits, or as messages from departed souls. In some cases, dreams were even seen as the work of demons, meant to confuse and trouble the dreamer.

Dreams were so important that they often dictated the actions of political and military leaders, affecting everything from the prosecution of a battle to the outcome of a political decision. Dreams were also thought to provide vital clues to healers, and they were used in the diagnosis and treatment of all manners of illness.

Dreaming was often looked upon by indigenous peoples as a way to commune directly with gods and spirits, and dreams are still used in this way by cultures around the world. Many people believed, and some still do, that during dream sleep the soul leaves the body and communes with the spirit world.

The Chinese were one culture who believed that the soul left the body each night during dream sleep. They believed that if the dreamer were suddenly awakened the soul may not be able to return to the body. That is why some Chinese are still leery about the use of alarm clocks. This is just one example of how ancient legends can linger into the modern world.

Some Mexican and Native American societies share this ancient view of the importance of dreams, and share the belief in a separate dimension that is visited during dream sleep. These people believed that their departed ancestors lived in their dreams, and that they were able to take forms like animals and plants. Thus dreams were seen as a way for them to commune with their recent and ancient ancestors, and to gather wisdom and knowledge that would serve them in their waking lives. To know more logon to www.jointwebventures.com .Dreams were also seen as ways to gather information about their purpose or mission in life.

The respect for dreams changed radically early in the 19th century, and dreams in that era were often dismissed as reactions to anxiety, outside noises or even bad food and indigestion. During this period
Of time, dreams were thought to have no meaning at all, and interest in dream interpretation all but evaporated. This all changed, however, with the arrival of Sigmund Freud later in the 19th century. Sigmund Freud stunned the world of psychiatry by stressing the importance of dreams, and he revived the once dead art of dream interpretation.

If you’ve ever tried to do O.B.E.s or lucid dreams in the past but weren’t able to pull it off and you were left wondering if there was something you were missing, maybe there was some secret missing piece and if you only had that missing piece that things would be a lot easier, well here it is. In this article I’m going to show you the missing piece that I wish I’d known about when I first started.

Congratulations! You’ve Found The Missing Piece!

Here in Lucidology 101 Part 7 we’ll cover the “timer method”. This is a very powerful trick that allows you to cheat and easily trigger as many O.B.E.s as you want. I’ve read pretty much every book on O.B.E.s and I’ve tested every single method I could find. There really is no other method that gives faster results than this. In fact, it’s possible you’ll have your very first O.B.E the very first time you use this. That doesn’t always happen, but quite a few people have written in to tell me that this was the secret that got them over the edge to start having frequent O.B.E.s in just one night.

At the end of this article I’ll show you how you can get a free copy of the Lucidology 101 O.B.E Explorer’s kit so be sure to read to the end for the URL.

The Story So Far: Sleep Triggers To Fall Asleep Fast

So far we’ve learned to put the body to sleep as fast as you can and enter a subconscious focus. You start out awake and alert, on the upper right and end asleep and in a subconscious trance on the lower left. But what we really want looks more like this…

What You Want: Hover On The Awake/asleep Threshold

What you want is to “hover on the awake/asleep threshold” so that you slip into a subconscious focus without losing too much awareness by slipping into deep sleep. This way your retain full awareness in your subconscious.

The Main Problem With Tricking Your Body Into Falling Asleep

You may be thinking, “easier said than done!” because what usually happens when people try to have an O.B.E is they just fall asleep and that’s the end of it.

Spontaneous Lucidity While Asleep

The solution most books give is to hope that you somehow magically become aware within the dream spontaneously. The idea is that by telling yourself over and over while you’re awake to become lucid you’ll eventually have lucid dreams just from force of habit alone. This is possible but it’s very unreliable. It takes months of practice to get this to work and even when you can do it, it’s always a matter of luck. You never know for sure if you’re going to have an O.B.E on any given night.

What Can You Do That’s Reliable?

Here’s the secret: what if you could cheat and manufacture your own lucidity trigger so that even if you fell completely asleep you’d still end up having an O.B.E?

Our Secret Weapon Cheat: The Digital Cooking Timer

It turns out such a secret weapon does exist. It’s called a digital cooking timer.

The idea is to fall asleep like normal and don’t even try to stay aware. You set the timer to beep so it wakes you up a few minutes later. By waking up and falling asleep every few minutes without moving you’ve formed a safety net so that you don’t fall too deeply asleep but enter a subconscious focus.

How To Use Hypnotic Fractionation To Have O.B.E.s Easily

This uses a principle from hypnosis called ‘fractionation’. Hypnotic fractionation means that when you are put into trance and then are taken from that trance, the next time you enter trance you’ll enter it more deeply than before. That means that if you can enter even the slightest trance then you can enter a very deep trance just by going in and out of that trance over and over. This is how you can hover on the awake asleep threshold and ease your way into an O.B.E without really having to use a lot of practice or skill.

Remember The “Roll Over Word” Sleep Command” Equation:

Remember that everything we covered earlier about the roll signal still applies. This only works when you use the timer and do not move ever at any point.

Simple, Proven Success Formula

If you wake up and fall asleep 4 or 5 times in an hour without moving you’ll start to have spontaneous paralysis, O.B.E vibrations and O.B.E.s. However if you wake up and fall asleep twice, shift position, and then wake up and fall asleep 3 more times then it won’t work nearly as well.

8 Steps To An O.B.E Using Hypnotic Fractionation

So here’s the big picture in a nutshell. First you wake up and fall asleep 4 or 5 times without moving using a timer and the sleep commands from Lucidology 101 parts 3 and 4. This will put you in sleep paralysis. You then use movement-free reality checks which we’ll cover in part 8 to check that you’ve shifted into a nonphysical focus. Then you use an exit method to convert paralysis into an O.B.E or lucid dream. We’ll cover basic exit methods in Lucidology 101 part 12 and advanced exit methods in Lucidology 102.

Timer Options

To do this you have a couple options for timers including cooking timers, timer mp3s and the Lucidology Flash timer.

Using A Digital Cooking Timer

I started out using a $10 cooking timer and it works just fine. To use one of these, memorize the buttons so you can reset it using your thumb without looking at it. Sleep with it in one hand, move ONLY your thumb when resetting it and the rest of your body will stay in paralysis.

Timer Mp3s

Alternately, in your Lucidology explorer’s kit you get timer mp3s that contain the predefined timer setups. To get these, visit www.Lucidology.com

A More Powerful Flash Timer

Finally, you can use the Lucidology Flash timer which also comes in your free Lucidology lucid dream kit. The flash timer allows you to customize your timer setup and change the intervals between the beeps however you want.

Ramp Timer Setup: The Reliable Workhorse

Your timer setup has a giant impact on how many O.B.E.s you have. I’ve spent countless hours testing various timer setups and here is the most reliable workhorse setup. It’s called “ramp” and the intervals are 8 minutes, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 20, and then 6 minutes repeating.

Ramp Timer Setup: What To Expect

Here’s what you can expect when you use the ramp setup. During the middle of the 20 minute intervals you’re likely to have lucid dreams and possibly spontaneous O.B.E.s. During the tail end 6 minute intervals you’re likely to have O.B.E.s. Here’s why…

Waking Up The Same Time Every Day Using A Timer

If you’ve ever used an alarm clock to wake up at the same time each morning you may have found that you started waking up 5 minutes before the alarm actually started beeping. You had conditioned the subconscious to expect the beep, but it does not like to be shocked awake. So its response is to wake you up before the beep.

Ramp Works By Faking The Subconscious Out

You can use this effect to your advantage by faking the subconscious out. The initial 8 minute interval is used for relaxation. After that the intervals start out short and increase in length, going from 4 up to 20 minutes. By the time you get to the 20 minute interval your subconscious is starting to expect another beep in the next 4 to 16 minutes.

To avoid the shock the subconscious goes on alert at around 4, 8 or 12 minutes. However, during the 20 minute intervals those beeps never come. This is enough to make you become spontaneously lucid in the middle of a dream in expectation of the ‘phantom’ timer beep that never happens.

The Phantom Beep Only Affects The Mind, Not The Body

The phantom beep can also give you waking sleep paralysis because body continues to sleep and doesn’t care about the phantom beep.

Are You Focused In The Dream Or In Your Body?

Whether you get a lucid dream or O.B.E from this depends on where you’re focusing at the moment of the phantom beep: either in a dream or on your physical body.

If you get a lucid dream your clarity level will likely be less than most O.B.E.s. However lucid dreams are often a lot more fun because they often start out in some kind of strange otherworldly area which is usually more fun to explore than the nonphysical version of your physical surroundings.

However, O.B.E.s often have much higher clarity than lucid dreams. When you use the timer method you’ll end up with plenty of each so you can decide which you prefer.

Tail-end O.B.E.s: The Other Half Of The Ramp

The shorter tail end intervals usually result in O.B.E.s rather than lucid dreams. This is because of the hypnotic fractionation effect we mentioned earlier.

O.B.E.s In Short Intervals: Why?

During the short intervals you don’t have time to slip very deeply into sleep like you do with the long intervals. This causes you to hover much more closely on the awake asleep threshold so that when a beep comes you’re more likely to have a physical focus you can use for an O.B.E.

How To Trick Your Body Into Falling Asleep

This is the simplest way to trick your body into falling asleep and feel the paralysis wave. When the timer beeps, your body may wake up for a moment but as long as you stay perfectly still your body will create the paralysis wave and put itself to sleep after 5 or 10 seconds. This is also an excellent time to use the sleep triggers from Lucidology 101 part 4 to command the body into paralysis.

Trick You Can Use Tonight To Have Your 1st Obe

So here’s the actual method to use to have conscious sleep paralysis for the first time or even an O.B.E.

1.) Go to bed at 9 PM

2.) Get up at 4:30 AM

3.) Stay up for 45 minutes until 5:15 AM and avoid lights

4.) Go back to bed and do “Stop Drop And Roll” to start to fall asleep

5.) At the end of S.D.R set your timer to use a ramp timer session. Fall asleep and let the timer wake you up and put you in an O.B.E.

Timer Method Disadvantages

As good as this method is it does have two drawbacks. First is your sleep cycle. The second is false awakenings.

The Timer Method & Your Sleep Cycle

Getting up early in the morning to do O.B.E.s is effective but it can leave you tired the rest of the day. The solution is called “Inductionless O.B.E.s”. Inductionless O.B.E.s are my favorite style of accessing the subconscious because they allow you to have O.B.E.s without messing up your sleep cycle. This is an advanced method that we cover in Lucidology 102 Part 8.

False Awakening Loops

The second disadvantage the timer method has is actually because it’s so powerful. This side effect is called a false awakening loop in which you think you wake up physically but actually wake up into another O.B.E. You may have to wake up several times before you really do wake up in your physical bedroom again.

How To Deal With The False-awakening Loop?

To solve this you basically need a way to take the red pill and figure out where you are and what’s going on. This is called a reality check. And not just any reality check will do, you need a movement-free reality check so that you can do it without disturbing your trance.

Lucidology 101 – Part 8: “The 4 Easiest Ways To Take The Red Pill”

I’ve tested dozens of types of movement free reality checks and boiled them down to the 4 most reliable ones. Be sure to read part 8 next to find out what they are.

We have normal dreams everyday and most of the times, they come to our life as nothing. Just 7 or 8 hours of sleep gone by. Do something about those dreams, about the time that is lost forever. Through dreams, we can enlarge our consciousness, letting us be more aware of what we experience in life… not just an awaking state, but a whole new world in a sleeping state that is revealed if the dreamer is willing to make the conscious effort to make it happen.

In the past posts, we have discussed about the different kinds of psychic dreams people may have including:

Prophetic Dreams Warning Dreams ESP Dreams Out-of-the-Body Dreams Survival Dreams Reincarnation Dreams Lucid Dreams

Sometimes dreams can be used to help us solve problems that we have a frustrating time to solve when we are awake. If things are ambiguous or puzzling, one can suggest him or herself that the problem will be solved upon awakening, putting the faith that an answer will come to the problem right before they fall asleep and finding the answer later in the conscious state.

Anything the sleeper wants to know or think of when waking up, one can program the mind to give them just that before hand and use autosuggestion, or light repeated phrases, right before drifting off into a dreamy state. This may also condition the mind to come up with new ideas and possibilities for creating a solution to a problem in life.

If one hopes to further develop ESP capability, one should continue to keep suggesting to the conscious and unconscious (this can be done through the directions on lucid dreaming below) that he or she is able to receive external sources outside of their ordinary senses permits them to do.

Katharine Cover Sabin (ESP and Dream Analysis), shows a way of how a dreamer who to have psychic dreams can do cite mantras to themselves:

The novice should begin his system of autosuggestion by pointing to the solar plexus area, and addressing the subconscious as follows: ‘my dreams are becoming progressively more outstanding and predictive. I shall remember my dreams after I wake up.’ These suggestions should be given at intervals during the day and upon retiring.”

Something similar, in your own words, through repeated daily practice and faith will also help bring out the psychic types of dreams from the books. To help this, dreamers should also always have a “dream diary” of some sort where they record their dreams. This not only helps with symbols and meanings of dreams and how they connect to the real world, but also helps us stay conscious in lucid dreams. You never know if a dream that is written in your diary will really unfold in reality.

How to Have a Lucid Dream

Lucid dreams are dreams where one is completely conscious of themselves while they are dreaming. This is something completely different from a typical dream that people have. The body will most likely be paralyzed at this point (this usually freaks people out which makes a lucid dream disappear), but if one is calm and collected, then there’s a good chance that they can begin a lucid dream and even control the outcome of the dream. But, the key to have a lucid dream is to stay conscious right before you go to sleep. Here are some tips to help you out with your journey.

1. Buy a notebook and label it, “My Dream Journal.” Your goal with this journal is to help you become more aware of your dreams, that you are serious about remember dreams from an unconscious state in a conscious state and linking these two worlds together. You will jot down little tidbits of dreams you remember upon waking up and keep your dream journal nearby you when you are sleeping.

2. Before falling asleep, try your best to stay conscious. Do this when you know you are tired and are about to fall asleep within the next few minutes of lying in bed. It might help if you keep your eyelids open, while you’re drifting off to sleep, and as your eyelids naturally close, open them up again. Once you enter the dreamy state, after doing that small act, you will become more conscious in your unconscious state and be more likely to one time spontaneous catch yourself being awake in your dream.

3. If you do find yourself being awake in your dream, do not panic. Stay calm. This is because if you start to jolt of panicking, the lucid dream may stop and you may find yourself awake, then having to start all over again. Just relax and try imagining something cool happening like flying.

4. When you wake up, record your dream. The easier it is for you to remember your dreams in vivid detail, the better you will get a lucid dreaming. This is because only a person who is completely conscious of their dreams would be able to remember what they did. Think of it this way, can you remember what you did an hour ago? Of course, you will conscious when whatever you did an hour ago happened. It’s the same if you can remember your dreams just like you would in reality.

5. Throughout the day, be more attentive to your dreams and your dream journal. Look at it from time to time as once night time hits you, you to feel more conscious in your dreams.

6. Also, through the day, ask yourself, “Am I awake?” This might sound silly at first but if you seriously keep asking yourself, “Am I awake?” The answer is yes. Be conscious of this. Then when you are dreaming, if you happen to be slightly conscious enough to know dream but ask yourself, “Am I awake?” The answer might be, “Yes.” If you answered that you are awake while your dreaming, then you are in a lucid dream.

7. Look out for dream signs such as something that happens in your dream that reoccurs again and again. This may be a clue that whenever that happens in your dream, you are having a lucid dream. Write them down in your notebook.

8. As for dream signs, the purpose of them is to have a link again between the unconscious world and the conscious world. This shouldn’t be too complicated. For example, you see a person in your dream often that you do see in real life. When you see this person in real life, you will refer back to your dream. Then when you are dreaming, you will see this person in real life and ask yourself, is this person really here. If you conscious enough to know the answer is no, then you’re dreaming.

9. Try your best to relate the dream world with the real world through random signs that seem to happen in both worlds repeating steps 1 – 9 for a few weeks, or until you make that transition.

10. Have fun!

In conclusion, the world of dreams in limitless. There are dreams that help us predict the future, there are dreams that give us warning that something is going to happen, there are dreams that give us extra senses, there are dreams that let us fly outside of our body, there are dreams that let us communicate with the dead, there are dreams that show us who we were before this life, and there are dreams that don’t seem like dreams at all, but feels like reality.

All this stuff is possible but one just has to believe in it and put faith in it. Just like any other obstacle in life, psychic dreams don’t come easily. It takes consistent practice. Sometimes, even a dose of luck is needed. Programming oneself daily to have psychic abilities, like the many people in the accounts of Hanz Holzer’s book, The Psychic Side of Dreams, will help one increase the chances of having psychic dreams.

That concludes this series of dreams. Good luck on adventuring through them as you really never know what kind of new thing you will experience in your dreams that you’ll never be able to experience in the real world.

Recently I reviewed a book and CD set on Flow-Dreaming. I had read the book but had not yet listened to the CD.

Last night I got to share Flow-Dreaming with a group. We played the first four tracks of the CD and journeyed into the flow. It was a wonderful experience.

Some were old friends; some were new. All of them seemed to really like flow-dreaming. I will let you know if I get any reports of especially good results. I’m hoping at least some of the people will buy the Flow-Dreaming set and keep on using it.

The author of Flow-Dreaming, Summer McStravick, has a very good voice and professional manner. She does an excellent job of leading the guided meditations on the CD.

There is beautiful background music, too, that enhances the experience without calling attention to itself.

Flow-dreaming with friends. What a blessing!

You know what a fan I am of Robert Moss and his concept of active dreaming. That is, deliberately going back into dreams, taking action there in order to change situations in the waking world. Moss teaches that dreams are a tool for healing ourselves and the situations around us, and that we can use dreams actively to do that.

I have found another author on using the power of dreams to enhance your life. Her name is Summer McStravick.

McStravick, producer and director of Hay House Radio, has a similar concept, which she calls flowdreaming. And she takes it even farther, I think.

In her book-and-CD-set, FlowDreaming, McStravic teaches us to go into “the flow” of the universe and make changes in our life from inside the flow. Starting from a visualization system that her family used when she was growing up, McStravick further developed it into a system for manifesting the conditions you want in your life.

The small hardback book is short and pithy, a clearly written instruction book that is also very inspiring. FlowDreaming comes with a CD of guided meditations and guided journeys into flow-dreaming. McStravick has a very good voice, by the way.

I love this book and highly recommended it. And the price is right. I got the book with CD for only $12.21 on Amazon.com.

I hope you try this book and use it to make your good dreams come true. Learning to get into (and direct) the flow is a true blessing.

Dream expert Robert Moss has written yet another ground-breaking book, The Dreamer’s Book of the Dead: A Soul Traveler’s Guide to Death, Dying, and the Other Side. It’s a big book, and I just started reading it. So you can be sure I will be writing more about it later. Meanwhile, just in case you have some holiday gift cash burning a hole in your pocket, I wanted to tell you about it.

If you have read any of the Robert Moss books on dreams (or if you have been reading this blog), you know that he uses innovated techniques and is breaking new ground (in our culture) in the practical and spiritual uses of dreaming.

Some Native Americans, Tibetans, Indonesians, and others have been masters of dreamwork for centuries. But Europeans and Americans have for the most part considered dreams to be meaningless, if not downright scary. Robert Moss and others are changing that as they teach us amazing and effective ancient ways of working with dreams.

The point of this book is that our departed loved ones, friends, and spiritual teachers often appear to us in dreams with important messages, but we don’t always pay attention. Moss teaches us to heed such messages. He also teaches us to take the initiative to contact the departed in dreams.

One of the main reasons to contact departed loved ones, friends, even enemies, is closure. Sometimes we need to apologize or receive apologies to heal old wounds. Sometimes we just need the reassurance that they are still in existence, even though no longer living.

Moss says that sometimes people who have died cannot rest easy until they deliver information or make peace with the living. It may be practical, like the whereabouts of missing papers or valuables, or it may simply be guidance on handling business, family or spiritual problems.

If all this sounds morbid, it really isn’t. You can also contact spiritual teachers and others who have gone before. You can ask them for advice or find out valuable information about the past or the present.

There is a lot of information in this book on various dream practices. As always there are wonderful stories of real people and experiences, as only Robert Moss can tell them. The book covers a wealth of information on dreams and dreamwork.

So you might want to take a look at The Dreamer’s Book of the Dead: A Soul Traveler’s Guide to Death, Dying, and the Other Sided by Robert Moss. You will find it on Amazon. I know, because that’s where I got it.

My family (on both sides) has always been blessed with dreams that contain messages from departed relatives. We have stories of dramatic dreams conveying important information going back over 100 years that I know of. Probably there were others that we no longer remember. Such dreams can be helpful in a practical way, but mainly they are comforting.

Dreams that bring help and knowledge from departed family members are a blessing that I like to remember, especially at this family-intensive time of year. How about you?

The fortieth anniversary of the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy reminded me of a famous RFK quote: “There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why. I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?”

The Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. (also assassinated 40 years ago this year) said, “I have a dream…” In fact, he said that on several occasions about different dreams.

Both men were using dream to mean something that they wanted to have happen. At first that may seem to be a different usage from the “dreams” we have at night. But take a second look.

John Lennon said, “A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.”

Lennon also wrote, “Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us, and the world will be as one.” That was his dream.

In some cultures, to have a good dream, as in the dreams RFK, MLK, and John Lennon had for the good of their people, is to be obligated to work to make that dream come true. And in reading about the Senoi people of Malaysia, the Tibetan lamas, lucid dreamers of many cultures, and dreamworkers like Robert Moss, we have found that dreaming can cause things to happen. So the two definitions of dreams (day dreams and night dreams) begin to merge.

In Europe and the U.S. in recent centuries we have been taught to think of night-time dreams as passive experiences, surreal and fantastic, having nothing to do with “real” life. Now we know that we can learn to use our night-time dreams to help make our daytime dreams come true.

What could be more of a blessing than that?

I’m still reading Creative Dreaming, the wonderful dreamwork book by Patricia Garfield, Ph.D., that I reviewed in a previous post.

I keep finding more and more good information in it. In particular, there is a whole chapter on Senoi dreamwork that is worth the price of the book all on its own.

The Senoi are often mentioned in connection with dreamwork, but often without much or any explanation of who they are and why they are important. The Senoi are a tribal people of what is now called Malaysia.

Back in the 1930s and 1940s, the Senoi were studied in their homeland, while they still lived in their traditional way. What the anthropologists discovered was startling!

The Senoi were a peaceful people who lived in the midst of warring tribes, and everyone let them alone! Despite their entirely peaceful ways, they were considered to be powerful magicians by surrounding tribes. So no one in the other tribes wanted to mess with the Senoi.

What was the source of their power? Senoi life was centered on dreams and dreamwork!

Each morning everyone in the extended family shared their dreams. They helped each other interpret their dreams, and they trained their children in dreamwork.

From babyhood on, Senoi were trained to control their dreams and to use what they gained from dreams to live a happy, peaceful, creative, and fulfilling life.

If a Senoi child had a nightmare, she or he was coached in turning the nightmare around, killing and/or befriending the dream enemy, and demanding a gift. The gift must be a song, poem, artwork, play, or invention that could be brought back and shared with the village.

Senoi dreamers learned to pursue pleasure, including sex, and to enjoy adventures in their dreams. Always, they were to bring back creative gifts to share with the community.

The most famous writing about the Senoi was published in the late 1940s by an anthropologist named Kilton Stewart. What he had learned from the Senoi (and learned to practice himself) was so amazing that others began to attack his work. They said it could not be possible, or true.

Unfortunately by then Kilton Stewart was dead. His mentor, another anthropologist had also died without leaving many notes.

Others went to Malaysia and were told by authorities that Stewart was wrong. By then, according to Garfield, the Senoi had been forced out of their ancestral lands by the new Malaysian government and forcibly resettled in camps, where they were forced into lifestyles that destroyed their old ways.

The new government did not want it to be known that they had so persecuted and oppressed such a peaceful and creative people. So the researchers who had set out to debunk Kilton Stewart were easily convinced that there had never been a Senoi society like the one Stewart so vividly described.

Patricia Garfield had written about the Senoi and had tried their methods. She knew that they worked.

Determined to find out the truth, Garfield went to Malaysia herself and persevered until she found independent guides and translators who would go with her. She sought out the remaining Senoi and interviewed them carefully.

She describes that adventure in her book. Kilton Stewart was fully vindicated by the testimony of older Senoi who described their traditional life in their old homeland exactly as he had. Stewart was right!

For more on exactly how to use the Senoi dreamwork methods to enhance your own life, and that of your family and friends, you really should read the book, Creative Dreaming.

I feel very blessed to have found Creative Dreaming, and I think you will, too.
