Are Your Dreams Legal? Protect Them.

June 24, 2012 on 11:19 am | In Dream Come True, Musings | No Comments

Asking if your dreams are legal might seem like an odd question. But laws vary from state to state and from city to city. Your dream activity, business or possession might not be legal where you live.

For example, maybe you have always dreamed of owning a lion or tiger. Is that legal where you live? Some cities and some states forbid it.

You may be planning to set up a business or make a purchase that would be illegal where you live. And  you may not even know it.

Or you may have already achieved your dream of building your ideal home or business. If you have, do you know how to legally protect it, and yourself, from mistaken foreclosure, liability lawsuit, or other legal disaster? Do you know how to protect your dream house from creditors if you have to declare bankruptcy?

Most of us do not know all those things. That is why we sometimes need lawyers. Yes, you can research some things on line. You could probably find out whether or not you could own a big cat where you live, or example. Other things require an attorney to protect your rights, your possessions, even your freedom.

But how do you know what kind of attorney you need, or what kind of forms to fill out, and how to find them? There is a website with free legal resources, including forms to download and fill out for legal matters that you can handle yourself (or to save time and money if you do hire a lawyer) and listings of lawyers, grouped by specialty, for every state in the US.

Achieving your dreams of having your own business takes a lot of work, and you need to take certain actions to protect it. The legal matters surrounding business can be extremely complex. It is easy to make a mistake that could turn your dream into a nightmare.

Luckily the same website also offers business law resources to help you stay out of trouble and listings of local lawyers who specialize in helping you stay safe. Or helping get your business out of trouble if if you have problems.

Again there are resources for doing some things yourself, articles to read and forms to download, and listings of lawyers near you who specialize in whatever kind of business you have, from sole proprietorships to publicly traded corporations. It is not enough to have a lawyer, you need an attorney who is skilled and experienced in solving the kind of problem that you have.

We may often forget to prepare for the legal dangers that can threaten our dreams, but now there is an easy way to find the help we need to save those dreams. And that in itself may be a dream come true.
