Lucid Dreaming Guide

March 4, 2013 on 4:53 am | In Dream Types | No Comments

A lucid dream is one in which the dreamer knows they are dreaming and can control their behavior in the dream landscape. This can be an emotionally powerful experience for people. Dreams have long been thought of as a way for the subconscious to communicate with the conscious. This communication is not always effective as dreams have a way of disappearing if we don’t write them down. Occasionally our consciousness is not ready to deal with a subject and dreams can be too challenging or scary to deal with. When this happens lucid dreaming can help.

No doubt you have had the experience of being in a dream state and knowing that you were dreaming. Sometimes this can make the dream fun or less scary. When you know it is ‘just a dream’ the events that happen feel more like watching a movie than real life. And when this happens it is important to remember that you are in control.

There are many ways to get into a lucid dream state and the reality is, it happens unintentionally all the time. The key is to doing it with intention. One of the first steps is to start tracking your dreams. Write down the dreams that you can remember and make a conscious, intentional connection to that part of your subconscious. Once you start to reach out for a connection it will be easier to get into a lucid dream state.

Once you are able to learn how to lucid dream intentionally then you have control over the events. You might be asking yourself, great now that I have control, what do I do? The answer to that is; anything you want.

It is a good idea to have a goal when going into a lucid dream. If you know what it is you want to accomplish then you have a better chance of getting into a lucid state. If you keep dreaming that you are being chased by an unknown assailant you might set a goal to turn around and see who is chasing you. When you have control over your dreams you can better understand that nothing in your dream state can hurt you.

When you are able to control a lucid dream you can ask questions and seek out answers to things you need help with in your waking life. A lucid dream is like a conversation between your subconscious and your consciousness. These two parts of you don’t talk to each other very often because they don’t speak the same language, but a lucid dream serves as a translator making it easy to talk, communicate, and get answers.
