4 Amazing Ways to Induce Lucid Dreaming: Dare to Dream!

February 23, 2011 on 2:41 am | In Lucid Dreams | No Comments

When I was little, I had a lot of bad dreams. I would stumble into the room belonging to my mother and wake her up. Instead of pulling me into her bed, she would get me a glass of water and take me back to my room.

I have told her about the monster in my dream and she would tell me that there was no reason to be afraid. She would tell me that If there is a monster in my dream, I should become a monster fighter! Beat him back and then jump on a Pegasus and fly away.

I was very little when I began this and it seemed so natural that I was very surprised to learn that not everyone can control their dreams. Many people, in fact, struggle to get enough sleep when their bad and negative dreams plague them on a nightly basis.

1) Being Lucid

Have you heard of the concept of lucid dreaming? Lucid dreaming occurs when you are having a dream and are aware of that fact.

Many people that have lucid dreams are able to control their dreams, just like I used to beat back monsters in mine. Most of the time lucid dreaming is achieved when the dreamer is already in the middle of a dream.

For example, you may be asleep, and then suddenly you may realize that you are having a dream about walking through a field of blue sunflowers.

You know you are sleeping, and you know that you are dreaming about walking through blue sunflowers. Some people are always able to control their dreams, while others have to practice and do exercises in order to learn how to have lucid dreams.

2) I Dreamt What?

The first step in learning how to have lucid dreams is learning how to remember your dreams. After all, if you cannot remember them, you will never know if you achieved lucidity in your dreams or not!

It is widely believed that everyone young and old have dreams about something every night, so you have plenty of time to practice remembering your dreams. Make sure you are well-rested, though, because if you are extremely fatigued, you will not be able to remember anything about your dreams, no matter how hard you try.

Right before you go to sleep, say something like: I will remember my dream in the morning.

Yes, it may sound a bit silly or hokey-pokey, but who is going to hear you (aside from a spouse)?

The mind is a very powerful thing, and often by verbally stating your desire, it is able to hold onto the suggestion and respond to it.

You need to focus your mind on your desire to remember the dream. Keep repeating your mantra until you are getting close to sleep. If your mind starts to wander, refocus it on remembering your goal.

Your last waking thought should be about being able to remember your dream.

3) Write It Down

Congratulations! You were able to remember the dream you had in the night.. until the world intervened and you had to get back to your daily routine come morning.

Now, you cannot seem to remember what you dreamed about. This is why it is important to have a dream journal beside your bed.

When you wake up, the first thing you should do is to write down what occurred in your dream.

You do not have to make it long; just write down the main points. Give yourself enough information so that you can recall the event whenever you want to.

4) Testing Reality

Once you can remember your dreams, you will find that you will be able to enter them. Reality Testing is one technique you can use to become lucid in your dreams.

To begin, you first need to constantly question yourself when you are awake. Look at your surroundings and note the little things, such as if the light is on or off, and what time it says on the clock.

If you train yourself to look at things while you are awake, your brain will automatically do it when you are sleeping.

Next, you need to try to change something. It is best not to try to conjure up a trip to Tahiti the first time. Instead, take note of what is going on in your dream and change something small.

Are you reading in your dream? Then look at the clock and see what time it is. Read a small section and try to make the clock jump ahead a few hours. Once you can do that, you can work your way up to the larger things. When you can truly control your dreams, anything is possible.
