Looking Like Your Dream Self

Even if you are overweight, you may look fine in your dreams. Dreams generally show us as we perceive ourselves. So if being overweight is not part of your body image, you may never have an anxiety dream about overweight.

Others, however, have dealt with the issue of overweight all their lives. Children can be cruel, and dreams of “teasing” and ridicule can haunt people all their lives.

Special public occasions become occasions for nervousness, even dread, for many of us because of a fear of not looking good enough, of not fitting in. Weddings, reunions, the first day of the school year (especially at a new school), or even the prospect of vacation, swimming or going to the beach can cause anxiety and even nightmares for some people.

One solution is to find a diet that suits your tastes and lifestyle and then commit to it. Some people crave meat, others crave fruits and vegetables. Selecting the right diet makes the difference between success and failure.

Many people I know have had success with the high=protein, low-carbohydrate Dieta Atkins, and they swear by it. It really works, especially for meat lovers who do not care much about pasta or carbohydrates.

Others prefer a mediterranean diet, high in olive oil, pasta, beans, tomatoes, and peppers. If you crave Italian, Greek, Lebanese or Moroccan food, for example, the dieta mediterranea may be just the thing for you. It is a diet you can actually enjoy, and that means you are more likely to stick to it and get the results you want.

For those who like meat and fish but also love vegetables, the dieta Fricker offers two modes, or phases, one for losing weight rapidly over a few weeks, and the other for sustained, gentle weight loss that helps you burn fat without losing muscle. Both phases work, but the purpose is different.

For emergency weight loss for that wedding or reunion, you can use the rapid-weight-loss method for up to 8 weeks. The drawback is that it is a very strict low-fat diet, so it can be hard to eat out or share a meal with others. However that seems a small sacrifice to make for rapid weight loss that still maintains your health.

The second phase, the moderate-weight-loss mode, takes longer but is much better for your health. It is also much easier to implement in a family meal situation or while eating out with others. It becomes a lifestyle, helping you to gently lose weight and to keep it off for the long term. (I guess you can tell that this is my favorite.)

Whatever your dream of looking your best may be, there are good ways to get there. You just need to choose the one that is most appealing to you. Taking effective action in real life may help quell some of those anxiety dreams.

Even if you do not reach your dream weight (which may be unhealthy or even impossible in some cases) before the big event, you will look and feel better. That in itself can be a dream come true.
