OMG....I posted a comment on this blog on May 22nd about my experience with the phantom doorbell. After my post, I did some additional searches on the web, and generally speaking there are two paths of thought on the subject. One, being the more common spiritual aspect, and the second being a more superstitious explanation. On one of the more "creative" websites, multiple bloggers posted that "the dream book" predicts that money is coming your way. Oddly enough, five days after posting my comments I received noticed that I will receive a "significant" (unexpected) deposit on June 15th. Coincidence?....most likely, but interestingly bizarre nonetheless. Hope it works out the same way for the rest of you guys - LOL.

Jennifer (and everyone), dream interpretation is not a science. It is an art. There is no one interpretation of anything that will apply to everyone, because dreams are a way that our own subconscious uses to communicate with us, using the images and experiences we all have stored in our memories. The subconscious tends to communicate in images (symbols) rather than words. It may also use sounds, smells, and feelings. As a brain researcher might put it, dreams are more of a right-brained experience, dealing in patterns and images rather than words.

Since each of us has different memories and stored images, the same image can mean different things to different people---at different times.

Unfortunately lots of people assume that every symbol or image means the same to everyone in all times and places. So there are lots of silly books and websites that give "dream dictionaries" or left-brained theories. That is, they are based on logic and theories rather than explaining that the meaning of dreams depends on the person who has the dream. Unfortunately some people try to be authorities by telling everyone the same meaning for their dream images, and that just does not work.

I recommend reading books like "Creative Dreaming" and any of the dream books by Robert Moss to learn how to interpret your own dreams and help others learn to interpret theirs. Only you can say for sure what any dream means to you, and sometimes it takes some work to allow yourself to understand that.

I hope this helps.

I came across this website as i googled 'hearing my door chap while sleeping'. I dont have a door bell so my letter box it there to chap. For the second time at early hours of the morning(4am) i jumped out of bed with my heart pounding, looked out my bedroom window, to my door to find noone there. It was so loud and exactly as my door would sound. I was curious to find what this meant. I have came across that it means its our spirtual inner self giving us a message of our inner self feelings and to act and believe what we are telling ourselfs inside. I have been having some problems with fellow friends, which have left me thinking strongley of the human being, their motives, personalities and why people say what they say to people which can hurt them. I believe this has happened to me to tell me to listen to my inner voice and believe in myself and be the stronger better person! Does anyone else have a similar story to mine?

I too am a Christian (Pentecostal)but do not assume that there is a connection to Christianity and these sounds we are hearing. The few times I've heard the phantom doorbell it was a definite Ding Dong. LOL. However, in the past few months a couple of times I've had a Beep that was in a triplet. It sounds like the old pagers! My cell phone has no sound like that nor any other device in the house that I know of. Again, as when I've heard the doorbell it was loud and it was in my bedroom. Of course I get up and look around for a stop watch, clock, or any other alarm it may be but find nothing. This is extremely strange. No one goes to my room but me, so there is not much chance that someone has left a pager in my room that I'm unaware of. No event after the fact seems to connect to these sounds. Anyone have an opinion regarding a beeper sound being a progression to another dimension of this phenomena or a regression!... LOL I think I've matured in my spiritual life a lot this past year and find it hard to believe that if God was trying to contact us he would use such a suttle experience as bells. Doesn't he use burning bushes and handwriting coming out of thin air? Ok I'm being silly. What is your opinion, which carries more urgency a doorbell or a pager? Just an inquiring mind wanting to know! Shelia

Before I make my comments, I want to qualify a few things. I am probably one of the most overly analytical people you could ever meet. I can usually find a logical explanation for the most bizarre occurrences/phenomenons. I have literally been in the middle of a dream that seemed impossible or illogical, and rationalized (in the dream) that things were senseless, then told myself (in the dream) to wake up because I was dreaming. That being said.... this "phantom doorbell" event has occurred often enough - without explanation - that I decided to do a search about it this morning. I was really surprised and relieved to see that I'm not the only person experiencing this problem. As with others, the chime startles me to full alert, and on some occasions it's actually a door knock. I've gotten up immediately to check all the doors which all have auto lights (with motion detectors) on them. The lights are not actuated, and there is never anyone at the door. Additionally, I travel often during the week and have heard the doorbell while in my hotel room, which by the way has no doorbell. Now....I will admit that I am very a light and alert sleeper, and sometimes take a sleep aid at night. But I've experienced this with and without the sleep aid. I'm also an early riser (6AM or earlier) by nature, but the disturbances usually occur between 1AM and 3AM. Is it possible that this some sort pressure from an inner ear infection (which I've had in the past) or congestion from a cold or allergies? Or, I'm going out on a limb here, is it a warning or premonition for future events. I've participated in a sleep study in the past, and was cleared as not having a problem with sleep apnea. I know this may sound contradictory to my opening statement, but I am a very spiritual person (I believe in Jesus Christ) and have experienced visions through dreams in the past. Thanks for your comments.

Renee
I have been wide awake when I've heard it also. And always in my bedroom. My house is pretty small and it is as loud as if the bell is actually in the room with me. I've not been lying down each time I've heard it either. Guess what...What is strange is my normal doorbell cannot be heard when I'm in my bedroom. But, I still go to all of the doors and look for someone to be there. Not sure how I know it is phantom or why I insist on looking around the house anyway.

Renee

I am not always sleeping when I hear phantom doorbell. It happens a lot lately. Usually I can tell the difference between the phantom and the real doorbell more easily when fully awake. Anyone else?
